The goonies. The goonies photo gallery. The goonies poster. The Goonies is a group of pre-teen nerdy boys who hang out in a small town which is about to be destroyed by developers. They go off on one last adventure on a forlorn search for the long lost treasure of One-Eyed Willie. They are accompanied by an older brother and a couple of girls, and they fall foul of escaped convicts the Fratelli brothers.
This is a highly entertaining adventure romp for a family audience, full of action, adventure, and humour, together with sufficient jeopardy to keep suspense alive, even though the sheer good-humouredness of the piece means that you never think these kids are in serious danger.
There are good performances from all, with a number of familiar faces in the early days of their careers (Sean Astin and Josh Brolin as brothers Mikey and Brandon, to name but two. Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano are full of comic menace as the Fratellis. Only Jeff Cohen's Chunk irritates rather than amuses - and, boy, does he irritate.
This undemanding film is great fun.
